Whether you’re looking to buy a new home or are thinking of ways to make the most of your current one, a popular topic of discussion is the the type of heating system a home is equipped with. In other words, does it run on oil or gas? Considering that both options have their own set of pros and cons, it’s often difficult for homeowners to decide which one is the better choice for them. But that’s why we’re here to help! As one of Connecticut’s expert HVAC contractors, we have all of the information you need to know about oil and gas heating.

Oil Heating

One of the greatest benefits of home heating using oil is that it can usually warm up your living space pretty quickly. Additionally, oil is considered to be a “clean” alternative to other heating options, meaning that it rarely, if ever, produces any emissions that can damage our environment. Finally, another benefit of using oil is that these systems are typically cheaper to install, so if budget is a concern you may fare better with this option.
However, there are some disadvantages that must be considered when choosing between the two. In terms of maintenance, you may need to service an oil furnace more often. Also, while installing these types of units may be more cost effective at first, the price of oil itself can be more expensive than gas in the long run.

Gas Heating

Where gas is concerned, these types of systems are said to be much more efficient, so the money you put into it is well worth it. Not to mention, the cost of gas is often said to be cheaper than oil! Furthermore, unlike oil furnaces, gas furnaces are thought to require less maintenance.

Before we move any further, it’s also important to discuss a few potential disadvantages to this option. If budget is a concern, these types of systems are generally more expensive to install at first. Additionally, your home must be equipped to receive gas, as it is delivered through a set of underground pipes – unfortunately, not all homes may be compatible.
