Ecofriendly ways to cool down your home by Airtech of Stamford

Today is April 22! Do you know what that means? If you said “Earth Day,” you’re right! Celebrated on this day every year, Earth Day symbolizes the importance of taking care of our planet and works to create awareness about pressing environmental issues and concerns. And although there are many that require attention, our focus today is finding ways to reduce energy consumption.

To limit the amount of energy your home uses over the next few months, check out the following to learn a few ways that you can cool down your home this summer while keeping the environment in mind:

  1. Shade your home by planting bushes or trees around its exterior. Though you won’t want to completely block out the sun, adding a barrier between its rays and your home can help lessen the amount of heat that makes its way inside. To make things easier on your A/C, you should provide some shade to your unit as well!
  2. Close curtains on windows that receive direct sunlight during the day. While you might want to open the windows themselves as a source of fresh air, opening the blinds too makes it easier for the sun to heat up your home. Just like you should shade the exterior of your home, you’ll also want to provide shade and block out the sun on the inside!
  3. Did you know that the direction in which a ceiling fan’s blades turn heavily impacts a home’s temperature? If you have a ceiling fan, adjust its direction to rotate counter-clockwise. When it moves in this manner the airflow produced is generally cooler and, therefore, the temperature of your home can begin to decrease.
For those of you who are eager to get their A/C up and running, we have a tip for you too – upgrade to a more energy efficient model! To learn how the trained specialists here at Airtech of Stamford can help you go green in your home, we encourage you to give us a call at (203) 323-3959; we have years of experience in home HVAC services and will work to provide you with the most strategic cooling solution possible.

Although we are only a little more than half way through April, your air conditioner is going to be put to use sooner than you think. And as an appliance whose primary responsibility is to keep your home comfortable when scorching temperatures take over, we know that you’re going to be hopeful that it works.

Unfortunately, however, there are instances where homeowners spend the entire summer relying on a unit that just isn’t performing up to par – and only because they don’t realize it! Would you know if it’s time to have a new system installed?

If you experience any of the following this year, give Airtech of Stamford a call:

Air conditioning replacement, Airtech of Stamford

  1. Increased Utility Costs: Although you may assume that your utility bills would rise when you turn your air conditioning on, a higher than normal increase signals that your unit isn’t operating efficiently.
  2. Decreased Comfort: Your home may be cool, but if it’s not as cool as usual or failing to reach your desired temperature, there is a good chance that different components of your unit are not working properly.
  3. Constant Noise: Air conditioners can be noisy, but they shouldn’t be noisy to the point where it’s unbearable! If you hear buzzing or rattling from the moment your unit turns on, your motor or fan blades could be in distress.
  4. Failure To Start: Okay, this one’s easy, but if your air conditioner isn’t turning on regardless of how much troubleshooting you do, it’s time to look into replacement!
Last but not least, warning sign number 5 is your air conditioner’s age. If you know that your air conditioner is approaching the 10 year mark or is currently between 10-15 years old, you may be in the market for a new unit – don’t wait until it’s too late!

Should any of the above warning signs present themselves to you this summer, we encourage you to call Airtech of Stamford! For over five decades, we have been providing AC repair and replacement services to customers in Stamford, Greenwich, Darien and New Canaan, Connecticut and can find you a solution that works best to keep your home comfortable season after season.

Spring HVAC Maintenance, Airtech of Stamford

As we’re sure you’ve probably already heard, maintenance is a necessary process that must be completed on a regular basis for all of your home’s major appliances. But why? Well, without it, there is a good chance that you will have to replace some of your most expensive purchases sooner than typically expected.

Specifically focusing on your HVAC unit, it is generally recommended that you have your system inspected by a professional in the fall and of course, the spring, so that the proper maintenance can be completed. But until you are able to make an appointment, here are a few things you can do on your own in the meantime:

  1. Walk around the exterior of your unit and make sure that there is nothing within its path for at least two feet on all sides. That means clearing vegetation and any other debris and even outdoor furniture.
  2. Make sure that the ground around your unit still stands solid and firm. Especially if your unit is resting on something other than just the ground, you’ll want to make sure everything is still in its place and holding up properly.
  3. Look into a better filter for your system. If you are unsure of what type of filter you should be looking for, a professional like Airtech of Stamford can assist you when visiting your home. Regardless, though, it is a good idea to at least put together a schedule for changing or cleaning the filter so that you never go too long without doing so.

Have you made an appointment for your spring maintenance check-up yet? If not, give Airtech of Stamford a call today! Our expert technicians can perform top of the line maintenance to ensure that your system is ready for the start of the new season.

Air Conditioning Repair vs. Replacement

Airtech of Stamford
21 Anthony Street, Stamford, CT 06902

(203) 323-3959

With the harsh winter those of us in Connecticut experienced this year, we wouldn’t be surprised if you said it feels like it has been years since summer was last here. But – the good news is that at the very least, spring has arrived (or at least it’s on its way) and that signals that summer is right around the corner.

Air Conditioning Repair and Replacement in Stamford, CTAs you go through your spring cleaning rituals over the next few weeks, it’s a good idea to stop and take a look at your air conditioner when you have the chance; especially after a winter like the one we just had! If in doing so you find that your A/C has been damaged, or even if you’re just curious about whether yours will make it through another season, here are a few guidelines you can use to determine if repair or replacement is the best approach:

Age: The age of your air conditioner is a huge deciding factor in terms of repair or replacement. If your unit is 10-15 years old (and certainly older at that), your best bet would likely be to replace.

Type Of Damage: If your unit is experiencing an issue such as a leak, repair services may be all you need. However, the severity of your damage will be the real driving force behind whether repair or replacement is necessary. Should several parts require repairs, you should analyze how those costs compare to the cost of an entirely new system.

Utility Costs: As units get older, it’s only natural that they would lose some of their efficiency. However, this will likely be reflected in an increase in your utility bills. If your system is in need of what you know could be just a minor repair, consider the cost of your most recent utility bills and determine if upgrading to a more energy efficient system will be worth your while.

Still not sure whether you should go with repair or replacement? At Airtech of Stamford, we can assess your cooling system and provide you with a solution that we feel would work best. With over 50 years of experience and having installed hundreds of residential, commercial and industrial systems, we have the knowledge needed to guide you in the right direction each and every time.

Tell-Tale Signs That You Need A New Furnace

If your furnace is completely on the fritz and no longer produces the heat you need to keep your home warm, then it is safe to say that it’s clear you need a new one. However, at other times, the need for a new furnace won’t always be so obvious.

Since chances are you will want to know when it’s time to replace your furnace before it becomes an emergency, here are a few tell-tale signs that will let you know:
Lifespan: Has your furnace been in your home since you moved in? If you have been living in the same place for 15 years or more and have yet to replace your current furnace with a new model, it’s time to start looking for one.
Utility Costs: While utility costs can vary depending on how heavily appliances around your home are used, if they are consistently climbing with no change in your usage behavior, there is a good chance your furnace is to blame.
Noise: Although it isn’t uncommon for furnaces to make noise every so often, when they start to become uncontrollably noisy, something somewhere in your system is performing poorly. When the noise starts to become too much to bear, it’s time to replace your furnace.
